SSE Airtricity

The Community Fund Films

The Background

The SSE Community Fund supports energy efficiency and sustainability projects in the local areas around its wind farms, right across the island of Ireland. The fund is paid out annually to a variety of different initiatives, starting one year after each wind farm begins to produce electricity. And it continues to provide financial support for these and similar projects for the lifetime of each energy-producing site.

The Objective

These films form part of our ongoing brand activity, and sit under our This is Generation Greenbrand platform. They highlight the idea of conscious energy, and how all our small choices add up to a cleaner, greener world. We all have our part to play and energy choice is an important part of that.

The Response

Through the community fund programme, SSE Airtricity provide voluntary annual funding to make a real difference in communities close to its 29 wind farms on the island of Ireland. As part of showing the diversity of activity that is being supported, we documented nine projects across Southern Ireland, the North West and the South East. Shot on location in Sligo, Wexford, and West Cork, this work tells the stories of local people making a positive difference in their communities.

These are very much “human stories”, and we witness, first-hand, the genuine appetite amongst people to embrace change and work towards a better future.  These videos are celebrations of Irish life, our diversity, and a genuine expression of the brand idea: This is Generation Green.

Each film was launched in the local community where the stories emerged – shown on solar-powered mobile cinema screens. The fantastic attendance at each launch was testament to and expression of the fact that we’re all part of Generation Green.
